A Little Tootsiepop

He was a lose leaf of paper
He was bound and then torn right out
He was placed with many imprints
That left him with a sense of doubt
She was a girl with a war
Fighting in the back of her mind
The subconscious fighting took all that she was
And it left her with subtle lines
They met at a misshapen table
They sat there everyday
The two were so meant for each other
Just their looks gave them away
To them, the world didn't matter
All they did was sit and chat
They ignored the others, the words, the lessons
To enjoy each other as they sat
Millions of questions and stories
Passed between their thumbs
As they sat and wrote short letters
Instead of studying off their bums
Pieces of paper were exchanged each minute
As they learned all that they could
For they wanted to learn of everything in the world
Even though they never would
Their love was signified with an item
A little tootsiepop
The ones with the candy outside
And the inside that makes a tooth pop
A tootsiepop for each moment
When he saw her in the hallway
She'd smile and take it, happily take it
And then she'd walk away
The love, it lasted for ages
It lasted until it did not
It ended with two people who were once together
As two hearts tied in two knots
He was bored and relieved his boredom
In a girl who lived right by
But he didn't even tell the original girl
When she left him without a goodbye
The girl with the war, the one that left her sore
Fighting in the back of her mind
She had discovered all that he had done
And then let out a cry and a final sigh
She looked at the letters
He'd left in her notebook each day
She read all the questions and answers
That she had used to keep her fears away
An item they'd shared
A little tootsiepop
Now made her stomach dance in pain
As her final grasp on life went k
                                                          e
                                                                      r
                                                                                 p
                                                                                           l
                                                                                                      o
                                                                                                                p

She's fixed herself up since then
She threw all the letters away
The memories are kept up safely
Far back in her mind are they
But once a year she eats a tootsiepop
For the one she once loved is not here
But she remembers the feeling she had when he was
And she embraces it once every year
